After implementing Elevar’s Shopify GTM Suite, if you see that your addtocart tag is sending duplicate data, or see two addtocart tags simultaneously firing under the same event. Please follow the troubleshooting steps below.
This issue usually happens when you have the Google Shopping App installed and have also implemented Elevar’s remarketing tags for your Google AdWords remarketing campaigns.
If you view your page source, you can search for this line of code to confirm that Google Shopping is installed.
**Note: Elevar’s tag is ‘addtocart’ and Google Shopping’s tag is formatted like add_to_cart
To solve this issue, all you have to do is decide whether to implement remarketing through GTM or Google Shopping, since having both will sometimes lead to duplicate AdWords tracking.
The Shopify/Google setup works in a similar manner as ours by sending custom retail data to your AdWords account that can be used in remarketing campaigns, so the decision of which setup to use is more of a business preference.
If you want to implement remarketing using Google Shopping, then we would recommend pausing the AdWords tags inside of GTM to prevent duplicate data reporting.
